Travel to school
Located within Westmead Children’s Hospital, The Hospital School offers The Walking School Bus service for families staying at Ronald McDonald House. This service provides convenient transportation to and from school for families managing complex medical appointments. Staff collect and drop off students from The Children’s Garden on Level 1 of The Children’s Hospital, helping to ease the stress of the morning routine.
The Walking School Bus
The Walking Bus initiative commenced in 2024, offering a daily morning service to provide both convenience and transportation for families managing complex medical appointments and residing at Ronald McDonald House. Staff collect students from The Children’s Garden on Level 1 of The Children’s Hospital, helping to reduce stress during the morning routine.
In 2025, recognising the growing need, The Hospital School introduced an afternoon Walking Bus to alleviate the stress associated with afternoon pick-ups from the classroom. Maintaining consistency, staff meet parents and carers at The Children’s Garden.
Beyond supporting families and reducing absences, the Walking Bus also fosters social interaction among students, families, and staff, while encouraging physical activity and promoting overall wellbeing.

If your child is attending The Hospital School as an outpatient and you plan to use public transport, there are convenient bus, train, and light rail stops located within the Westmead CBD and directly in front of the hospital.

Driving and parking
The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
When driving and parking near our school, please:
- ensure you park in designated parking areas around the hospital
- follow speed signs
- do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the hospital

Parking is available in P6 located on Hawkesbury Rd.
