Enrolment

The Hospital School offers shared enrolment for school-aged students from a wide range of educational backgrounds, including Department of Education schools, private institutions, Distance Education, TAFE, and University. We provide essential educational support to students and their families throughout their hospital stay, ensuring continuity of learning during this time.

Given the unique needs of our students and families, as well as the complexity of our learning environment, the Hospital School offers a variety of enrolment options tailored to best support each individual.

How students join us

Students may come to our school through:

• Parent completing enrolment
• Medical, Nursing and Allied health completing enrolment form on behalf of family
• Census school alert
• Medical referral for Education Support service

Process

Families and medical teams can access the enrolment form through our website, on the wards, or at our school office, with assistance available from our staff. Once the enrolment form is completed, our administration staff will process the enrolment as a shared enrolment with the census school, enabling us to obtain important information to best support students throughout their admission.

Enquiries and Educational Support Service

The Hospital School at Westmead offers Educational Support Services through close consultation with families and medical teams. These services provide tailored educational support to students as outpatients, ensuring they continue their learning even if they are not regularly attending the hospital. This service may also be used when medical teams and families are unsure of the type of support the student may need at that point, helping to identify and address their educational requirements.
